MACOM shipping coherent CFP2 ACO modulator drivers

M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings, Inc. (MACOM) it has begun production shipments of two modulator drivers aimed at CFP2 analog coherent optical (ACO) optical transceivers. The MAOM-003417 and MAOM-03417L are optimized for use with the low Vpi indium phosphide modulators that help the CFP2 ACO optical modules meet the power requirements of 100- and 200-Gbps optical transmission in metro networks.

M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings, Inc. (MACOM) it has begun production shipments of two modulator drivers aimed at CFP2 analog coherent optical (ACO) optical transceivers. The MAOM-003417 and MAOM-03417L are optimized for use with the low Vpi indium phosphide modulators that help the CFP2 ACO optical modules meet the power requirements of 100- and 200-Gbps optical transmission in metro networks.

The MAOM-003417 and MAOM-03417L drivers deliver up to 3-Vpp single-ended linear output with 600 mW of power dissipation per channel. The 14x9.1-mm form factor, low power dissipation, wide gain range, and linear output fit the requirements of the coherent CFP2 ACO modules, MACOM says. The devices also are compatible with a wide range of DSPs and Mach Zehnder modulators, the company adds.

The devices are available for sampling. Demand for the new modulator drivers could be significant.

"The 100G metro market is growing rapidly, with a total addressable market that could be $1.4 billion dollars by 2019," said Daryl Inniss, practice leader at market research firm Ovum. "The CFP2 coherent form factor will enable the higher-volume metro market as it enables lower power, lower cost, and smaller sized products. MACOM is well positioned to leverage this opportunity and address this hyper growth market, with its broad portfolio of products and technology."
