Clouditalia improves packet transport with Coriant

May 15, 2015
Italian integrated and cloud services provider Clouditalia has deployed the Coriant 7090 Packet Transport Platform to improve service delivery to small and medium businesses, the optical transport systems vendor says. The service provider will use the packet transport gear to support the delivery of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services as well as expand support for cloud and data center interconnect (DCI) applications. It also will help Clouditalia migrate legacy services such as E1, SDH, and lower bit rate Ethernet to the packet network.

It also will help Clouditalia migrate legacy services such as E1, SDH, and lower bit rate Ethernet to the packet network.

Clouditalia operates a 14,000-fiber-km network it uses to provide connectivity among its data centers and to provide services to its customers. The network, which includes such major network sites as Rome, Milan, Bologna, and Pisa, leverages Coriant's hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform, which undoubtedly helped the company land this new business.

"Providing our customers a total solution – from multiservice cloud access to wholesale optical transport – is a cornerstone of our service differentiation," said Marco Iannucci, Chief Executive Officer, Clouditalia. "This flexible and scalable PTN solution, which builds upon our Coriant-powered coherent 100G fiber-optic network, significantly enhances our ability to deliver innovative new business services optimized for the current and future bandwidth needs of our small and medium-sized customers."

Coriant says Clouditalia chose the MPLS-TP-enabled 7090 PTN to meet a variety of needs, including carrier-grade restoration and quality of service (QoS), efficient and redundant grooming and aggregation at the network edge, AC and DC power options, VLAN management, and support for ring- and mesh-based protection architectures.
