OptoTest Corp. has announced the OP-SPHR Integrating Sphere, an aid for testing optical fibers terminated with high-density fiber-optic connectors such as MXC, MTP/MPO, or bare fiber.

The Integrating Sphere reflects and evenly distributes the fiber’s light over the entire surface of an internal cavity. This design makes insertion loss (IL) measurements stable and repeatable with low polarization dependence, OptoTest asserts.

The sphere may be screwed on new or existing test and measurement systems to accommodate up to 72 fibers. For example, it can be used with all OptoTest 1-mm and 3-mm detector designs. It requires no calibration, OptoTest asserts, which substantially reduces maintenance requirements.

In combination with OptoTest’s OP Series test equipment and OPL Series software, the integrating sphere enables the fastest insertion loss measurements in the industry, the company claims. Test results are recorded in an easy-to-access format, OptoTest adds.

The OP-SPHR is available for order now.
