Cable & Wireless deploys Coriant hiT 7300 in Jamaica and Barbados

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has decided to deploy the hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform in the backbone fiber-optic networks it operates in Barbados and Jamaica, the optical transport systems vendor says.

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has decided to deploy the hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform in the backbone fiber-optic networks it operates in Barbados and Jamaica, the optical transport systems vendor says.

The deployments come as CWC rolls out a new high-speed broadband network in Barbados and expands its optical backbone network in Jamaica. CWC offers quadruple-play services in 42 countries throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

"From state-of-the-art quad services to seamless fixed mobile convergence, a flexible and resilient optical transport infrastructure is critical to our ability to bring our customers a premium communications and connectivity experience," said Carlo Alloni, CTIO of Cable & Wireless Communications. "The hiT 7300 solution from Coriant will put us at the forefront of optical transmission speeds, agility, and availability and help us cost-effectively meet the current and future bandwidth requirements of our residential and business customers in Jamaica and Barbados."

Coriant asserts that the deployment of its packet-optical transport system will enable CWC to maximize the use of its fiber-optic network and lower operational costs. It also will support as much as 13 Tbps per fiber pair to keep pace with future bandwidth demands.
