Eurofiber to buy Belgium’s B-Telecom

Fiber-optic network and data center services provider Eurofiber has agreed to acquire Belgium network operator B-Telecom from parent Syntigo for 33 million euros. Eurofiber expects the deal to close by the end of July.

The deal will increase Eurofiber's footprint in Belgium by 7,500 km, giving it nationwide cover that complements its presence in the Netherlands (see "Eurofiber offers 100 Gigabit Ethernet using Infinera's DTN platform"). The company also operates in parts of Germany.

"Our ambition is to be a national provider of fiber-optic connectivity for the business market in Belgium with a unique proposition - our open network," said Alex Goldblum, CEO of Eurofiber.

"We have aimed since inception to grow in Belgium organically as well as through mergers and acquisitions," stated Lars Alkema, managing director of Eurofiber Belgium. "This transaction represents an important step on our path to becoming market leader in dark fiber services in Belgium and to securing a top three position in fiber based transmission services."

Privately held Eurofiber is majority owned by Doughty Hanson, which bought the company in 2012 from Dutch investment firm Reggeborgh (see "Private equity firm Doughty Hanson to acquire Eurofiber"). Reggeborgh retained a minority stake in the company.
