Fujitsu upgrades OTN features in FLASHWAVE 9500 FLASHWAVE CDS

Fujitsu and its North American arm, Fujitsu Network Communications, have unveiled upgraded Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching and access features for the FLASHWAVE 9500 and FLASHWAVE CDS packet-optical transport systems.

The FLASHWAVE 9500 now sports up to 2.4 Tbps of OTN fabric capacity, which Fujitsu asserts is the highest switching density available in a smaller form factor – 25% more switching in the same 13RU space. The system now supports 2.4-Tbps OTN cross-connect grooming and an OTN control plane to support cross-connect services through OTN networks. A new suite of OTN units supports grooming from ODU0 up to ODU4 and can be used in multiple operational modes, with or without the centralized switch fabric.

A new 2 x OTU4 unit also supports coherent CFP modules. Additional software features include support for ITU G.8032 Ethernet ring protection switching and Y.1731 performance monitoring.

The integration of OTN and ROADM switching enables the FLASHWAVE 9500 to groom and "rearrange" traffic at intermediate drop sites without the need for additional transponders or muxponders.

Meanwhile, the latest release of the FLASHWAVE CDS offers higher-capacity OTN access, a new compact chassis, and enhanced protection capabilities.

A new OTU2 OTN transponder supports 4 x 10G OTN demarcation; the transponder supplements the OTN switch muxponder and OTU1 OTN transponder units already available. A new 1RU, AC-powered OTN chassis targets customer premises equipment demarcation. Y-cable protection support for OTN modules provides hardware resiliency.

With 80 Gbps of OTN switching capacity, the FLASHWAVE CDS is designed to provide high-density OTN multiplexing and switching for transparent transport of Ethernet, SONET, SDH and wholesale service extensions.

The FLASHWAVE CDS can operate as a stand-alone system or as an extension of the FLASHWAVE 9500 and FLASHWAVE 7500 platforms. When used in combination with the newly enhanced FLASHWAVE 9500, direct connection eliminates equipment bookending, thus lowering costs.
