GlobeNet moves into Europe

GlobeNet, which previously had focused its wholesale data network services business on Latin and North America, will now offer connectivity in Europe as well. GlobeNet, which previously had focused its wholesale data network services business on Latin and North America, will now offer connectivity in Europe as well. The service provider says its customers will now be able to connect to such European Internet exchanges as AMS-IX (Amsterdam), DE-CIX (Frankfurt), and LINX (London).

GlobeNet says it will provide "exclusive European content" to its IP transit customers as well as its existing Layer 2/Layer 3 service portfolio to provide direct private connectivity from Latin America to Europe. The same goes in reverse as well. "This first step opens the door to Latin America, one of the fastest growing markets for European customers, offering unparalleled resiliency, quality of service, and the lowest latency to the region," said Erick W. Contag, GlobeNet's president and COO.

The service provider offers capacity between North and South America via a submarine cable system that serves Brazil, Bermuda, Colombia, the U.S., and Venezuela. The submarine network, which runs more than 23,500 km, links cable landing stations in Tuckerton, NJ, and Boca Raton, FL, with cable landing stations in Fortaleza (CE) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil; St. David's, Bermuda; Barranquilla, Colombia; and Maiquetía, Venezuela (see, for example "GlobeNet completes 100G upgrade of Bermuda-U.S. submarine cable").
