Sweden's Stadsnatsforeningen chooses TransPacket systems for wavelength services

Stadsnätsföreningen, an alliance of nearly 200 fiber-optic network service providers in Sweden, will deploy TransPacket's FUSION virtual wavelength technology to support the delivery of wavelength services throughout the country.

The contract award comes after a member of the alliance deployed TransPacket's equipment this past May. The FUSION technology enables sub‐wavelength capacity services and traditional Ethernet services to be carried in the same physical wavelength (see "TransPacket validates performance with Symmetricom"). The virtual wavelengths have the same quality of service (QoS) characteristics of physical wavelengths, TransPacket asserts. The ability to transmit both types of services over the same wavelength significantly improves bandwidth efficiency, the company adds.

“Wavelength services seldom fill the available capacity of the wavelengths. With the TransPacket FUSION technology, any unused capacity is applied for traditional Ethernet service offerings,” explained TransPacket CEO Thomas Örnevik.

”The TransPacket virtual wavelength concept brings wavelength services to a new level of cost-efficiency. TransPacket's equipment enables cost efficient provisioning of wavelength services across our network of near 200 individual service providers,” said Jimmy Persson, product manager of Stadsnätsföreningen.
