Padtec runs 100G over Allied Fiber's dark fiber in Florida

Brazil-based Padtec says it has signed a partnership agreement with carrier-neutral dark fiber and colocation services provider Allied Fiber that will enable the optical transport systems house to show off the capabilities of its LightPad i6400G DWDM system on Allied Fiber's southeast route.

Padtec says it has installed examples of the LightPad i6400G to light a 356-mile dark fiber pair between Jacksonville and Miami with 100 Gbps of optical transmission capacity. The link features enhanced amplifiers that ensure extended span lengths with very low noise figures, Padtec says.

Allied Fiber opened the Jacksonville-to-Miami portion of its southeast route last year, and the full run to Atlanta earlier this year (see "Allied Fiber opens southeast fiber-optic network route" and "Allied Fiber's southeast route reaches Atlanta"). In addition to offering dark fiber and colocation services, the company has also offered fiber on the route to systems providers who would like to use the network as a demonstration platform or technology testbed.

Padtec says it has deployed its equipment to support more than 100,000 km of DWDM backbone networks throughout Latin America and has equipment in more than 40 countries (see, for example, "UFINET upgrades fiber network with Padtec DWDM systems"). The Allied Fiber deployment would appear to be a bid to raise its profile in North America.
