MACOM delivers MAXP-37161 28G, 16-channel crosspoint switch

Electronic component supplier M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc. (MACOM; NASDAQ:MTSI) says it has begun to deliver the new MAXP-37161, non-blocking, 16-channel, 28-Gbps crosspoint switch for applications such as 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand, and Optical Transport Network (OTN) applications. In addition to switching, the device also is designed to compensate for signal loss in backplanes and copper cables.

(MACOM; NASDAQ:MTSI) says it has begun to deliver the new MAXP-37161, non-blocking, 16-channel, 28-Gbps crosspoint switch for applications such as 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand, and Optical Transport Network (OTN) applications. In addition to switching, the device also is designed to compensate for signal loss in backplanes and copper cables.

The MAXP-37161 is equipped with integrated clock and data recovery (CDR), adaptive continuous time linear equalization (ADCTLE), and decision feedback equalization (DFE). These capabilities enable the device to compensate up to 32 dB loss at 12.9 GHz. Retiming is used to eliminate residual jitter.

The crosspoint switch's diagnostic features include on-chip eye monitoring for link margin evaluation or receiver optimization and integrated PRBS generators and checkers.

The MAXP-37161A is offered in a 15x15-mm BGA package.

MACOM says it has already begun shipping the MAXP-37161 to customers. These include Metamako, an Australian company active in supplying deterministic ultra-low latency technology for the financial trading community. Metamako plans to use the switch to support emerging 25-Gbps communications requirements, among other applications.
