ADVA Optical Networking FSP 150 ProVM offers edge NFV with service assurance

The company is demonstrating the capabilities of FSP ProVM with BT at the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The optical transport systems vendor asserts the FSP 150 ProVM is the only carrier-grade edge virtual network functions (VNF) offering that can deliver comprehensive service assurance for both its integrated server as well as the connecting network. In particular, hardware-assisted monitoring enables direct, detailed performance monitoring of applications, ADVA asserts.

The ADVA FSP 150 ProVM offers standardized interfaces based on OpenFlow, OpenStack, and Netconf/YANG. The integration of control and management systems with the underlying hardware creates synergies between physical and virtual network functions that improve performance, ADVA says. Meanwhile, the ADVA FSP 150 ProVM includes ADVA ConnectGuard security technology to mitigate the risks such openness might invite. The technology combines encryption, tamper resistance, and network isolation with access control lists.

The ADVA FSP 150 ProVM also includes Syncjack time distribution and assurance technology for virtualization in radio access networks.

In the demonstration, BT and ADVA will show how the FSP 150 ProVM can support CCTV-based video surveillance. Alchera Technologies will supply the video surveillance application. The application of NFV could prove useful in scenarios where the high-speed connectivity a centrally hosted video surveillance service normally requires is unavailable.
