The second quarter of 2012 saw a 5% growth in revenues for the broadband aggregation equipment market, according to Infonetics Research. In its new 2Q12 PON, FTTH, and DSL Aggregation Equipment and Subscribers report, the market research firm says that it was a particularly good quarter for PON in general and GPON in particular.

Calix to buy Ericsson's FTTH product line

Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) has agreed to buy the FTTH product line of Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) for an undisclosed sum. The two companies also agreed that Ericsson would resell Calix’s newly beefed up access equipment portfolio worldwide.

GPON leads access market growth through 2016 says DellOro Group

A new five-year forecast by Dell’Oro Group predicts increased sales of GPON optical line terminals (OLTs), DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS and VDSL infrastructure equipment through 2016. Driven by growing bandwidth requirements, the report say that GPON will show the fastest growth, followed by CMTS and VDSL, offsetting a trend of declining revenue for slower-speed ADSL equipment.

iTV-3 builds FTTH network with Zhone MXK

(NASDAQ: ZHNE) says that iTV-3, is deploying the access equipment developer’s MXK platform as part of a new fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to serve the communities of Morton and Pekin in Central Illinois. The new network will pass more than 15,000 homes to support the provision of triple-play services.

fSONA adds power over Ethernet option to optical wireless system

Free-space optical (FSO) systems vendor fSONA Networks Corp. has added a new power option for its SONAbeam free space optical wireless links. The SONAbeam Z and E series can now be ordered with or upgraded to Power over Ethernet (PoE). This new option will save operators time and money during installation by eliminating need for separate cabling, the vendor says.

New Hampshire FastRoads builds BTOP middle-mile link with Calix

Access transport systems vendor Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says that New Hampshire FastRoads, a limited liability company of the Monadnock Economic Development Corp., will use the Calix E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) and 700GE family of optical network terminals (ONTs) in a network that will provide point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet services to underserved subscribers in 35 communities in the western part of the state.
