Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) has announced general availability of the Zhone Unified Provisioning 3.0 software for its zNID product line. Integration of Zhone's cloud-based provisioning software provides a single point from which to manage and configure an entire network while also reducing network management complexity, the company claims.

IEEE 802.3bk extends reach and density of EPON

The IEEE has announced approval of IEEE 802.3bk, “Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for Extended Ethernet Passive Optical Networks.” The new specifications are designed to enable higher-density and longer-reach applications of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) infrastructure while improving cost of network ownership.

(NYSE: CALX) says that Dutch service provider Teleplaza has chosen the Calix E7-2 and E7-20 Ethernet Service Access Platforms (ESAPs) to deliver advanced fiber-optic broadband services to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) in the city of Tilburg. Teleplaza is also using Calix’ optical network terminals (ONTs) to deliver voice, video, wireless, and high-speed data services to the MDU residents.
