HIGH-SPEED NETWORKS

High-speed fiber-optic networks of 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps are now being implemented by service providers and data center network managers alike. Carriers have begun to deploy coherent transmission technology. Interfaces for 40 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gigabit Ethernet have begun to appear on routers, switches, and optical transport platforms. Meanwhile, work has begun on 400-Gbps and 1-Tbps optical communication technology.
