Data center services provider Verne Global and Tele Greenland say they have completed a 12.4-Tbps upgrade to the Greenland Connect submarine cable system with three new 100-Gbps connections into Verne Global's Icelandic data center. The upgraded undersea network will deliver low latency routing from Iceland to the New York City metro area.

Tele Greenland has invested in Greenland Connect to improve its connections from North America, through Iceland, into European markets and back. In January, Huawei Marine assisted Tele Greenland in deploying a 100-Gbps submarine network along the Greenlandic Westcoast and upgrading the capacity of the Greenland Connect subsea cable system (see "Tele Greenland to add 100-Gbps submarine network capacity").

According to Verne Global, this route upgrade to the Greenland Connect undersea cable system will enable the telecommunications provider to reduce network costs by as much as 90% and better meet customers networking demands, allowing them to scale as necessary. Tele Greenland has also invested in route security enhancements to protect cables from elemental factors and improve data integrity.

"Our customers now have a faster, higher-capacity and dramatically lower-cost connection directly into the heart of the US financial markets in New York City," said Dominic Ward, Verne Global's managing director. "Verne Global's Icelandic campus has quickly become an integral part of the data center ecosystem, providing a vital link between markets as the use of intensive compute such as high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics rise across industries."
