Molex Ventures has announced that its Optical Solutions Group (OSG) and Elenion Technologies, LLC (Elenion) will partner to develop, manufacture, and market silicon photonics technology. The strategic investment and collaboration between the Molex OSG and the semiconductor company will use CMOS and high-volume manufacturing processes to develop enhanced interconnect technologies that scale to 400 Gbps and up, Molex Ventures says.

Elenion is part of Marlin Equity Partners' portfolio, and has been focusing on source, and control expertise since emerging from stealth mode in 2016 (see "Elenion Technologies emerges from stealth mode with silicon photonics optical engines").

In March of last year, Elenion's sister company Coriant offered a 200-Gbps short-reach CFP2-ACO pluggable optical transceiver for the Coriant Groove G30 Network Disaggregation Platform (NDP) that uses Elenion's silicon photonics technology (see "Coriant offers 200-Gbps short-reach CFP2-ACO for Groove G30 platform").

"High-speed silicon photonic-based technologies represent a cost-disruptive solution to bandwidth scalability needs in hyperscale data centers in the high-growth optoelectronics sector," said Lily Yeung, Molex Ventures vice president. "This investment and collaboration combines Elenion's key strength in advanced silicon photonics core technology, with Molex core capabilities in complex product integration, efficient manufacturing, and global sales and marketing, and provides the most advanced and compelling product solutions to our customers."

Molex Ventures is a subsidiary of Molex Electronic Technologies LLC of Lisle, IL. OFC 2018 attendees can learn more about Molex Ventures and Molex OSG strategic initiatives by visiting Booth 2512 this week.
