Coriant introduces Vibe X90 white box switch for mobile and converged applications

The Vibe series is Coriant's new line of carrier-class white boxes designed to enable low-cost service aggregation from access to the core. The members of the programmable packet switch portfolio leverage a merchant silicon network processor, standard Intel processor module as a CPU environment, power supplies, fans, and "mechanics." The Vibe switches also are based on Open Network Install Environment (ONIE), which enables the installation of a compatible network operating system (NOS), and can take advantage of SDN/NFV orchestration in multi-vendor, multi-layer environments.

Along these lines, the Vibe X90 offers packet disaggregation and open software control, which Coriant says offers service providers and web-scale operators lower operational costs than traditional transport IP routing systems. The Vibe X90 will provide as much as a 60% decrease in total cost of ownership (TCO) when combined with Coriant's NOS, the company asserts.

The 2RU programmable packet platform supports 900 Gbps of full-duplex switching capacity in single node configurations. It can scale to 2.7 Tbps in stacked configurations, with further expansion enabled in POD configurations. Coriant says this feature makes the Vibe X90 well-suited for IP transport network applications where the dense mix of 1G, 10G, 25G, and 100G interfaces, such as in provider edge and central office environments, makes cost-efficient Layer 2/3 service aggregation necessary. The system also supports packet synchronization (IEEE 1588, SyncE), large packet buffers, ETSI-standard rack sizes, node stacking, control and data plane redundancy, and a variety of other carrier-grade operations.

Coriant demonstrated the new Coriant Vibe Series of Programmable Packet Platforms, along with its entire line of open, disaggregated, and software-driven technology in March at OFC 2018 (see "Coriant introduces Coherent Multiservice Sled to improve Coriant Groove G30 capabilities").
