Zayo (NYSE: ZAYO) says that a leading health system in the south-central United States has chosen it to provide a 40G private dedicated wavelength network (PDN-W), supplying diverse connectivity between the customer's centralhospital campuses and data centers. The connectivity will address the provider's data needs, including electronic health records (EHR) and medical device applications. Zayo has yet to name the provider, but affirms that it is a nationally ranked non-profit.

To accommodate electronic medical records, high-resolution imaging, life-critical applications, personalized medicine, and telemedicine, healthcare providers are faced with increasing demand to upgrade their network infrastructure. The customer selected Zayo to meet its own need for a high-capacity, stable network that is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant, with the assurance that operations continue in the event of an unexpected disruption or natural disaster. Zayo's PDN includes dedicated fiber and optoelectronics for the provider's exclusive use to meet this need, delivering high performance levels, flexibility, and security.

The company asserts that its PDNs and infrastructure are well-suited for the healthcare and life sciences industry, as they offer dedicated, high-capacity fiber connectivity and an increase in secure data center presence for colocation.

"Zayo's solution will deliver the dedicated, diverse, high-performance infrastructure that the customer requires to provide the highest levels of patient care across its system," said Jack Waters, CTO and president of Fiber Solutions. "Our ability to architect the right solution and flexibility to adjust the service levels to meet the customer's needs were instrumental in earning their continued business."

Zayo's PDN was also chosen in December of last year to provide dark fiber and a complete scopeof managed fibers to New Cross Pacific (NCP) US Backhaul group to diversely backhaul traffic from its U.S. landing station throughout the western U.S. (see "Zayo to provide private dedicated network for New Cross Pacific submarine cable").
