Puerto Rican business internet service provider AeroNet says it has upgraded its fiber backbone to 100 Gbps with the installation of MX Series routers from Juniper Networks (NYSE:JNPR). The fiber service provider also has extended its footprint to Miami, FL, with a presence at the NAP of The Americas.

AeroNet serves more than 7,000 commercial customers in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and South Florida. Its fiber backbone upgrade included installation of the MX Series routers in points of presence throughout the San Juan metro area. AeroNet will now offer Ethernet services up to 100 Gbps in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations. The new IP node at Equinix’s NAP of The Americas also leverage MX Series routers and will enable AeroNet to connect with a variety of cloud services and telecom providers in North and South America.

“AeroNet takes another step into being in the forefront of technology by investing in Puerto Rico and in the latest fiber-optic technology to serve our customers. Our Miami node will allow us the flexibility to provide new services including direct cloud connectivity. Innovation is on the top of our to-do list, and by completing these two milestones we can solidify and expand our network and product offerings,” said Gino Villarini, founder and president of AeroNet.
