Biznet upgrades metro network in Indonesia via Huawei

Biznet, an internet service provider (ISP) in Indonesia, has significantly upgraded its metro network capabilities via equipment from Huawei, the technology provider says. The systems, elements of the Huawei Intent-Driven Wide Area Network (WAN) Solution portfolio, will enable Biznet to improve the performance of its 25,000-km fiber-optic network, which serves the islands of Java, Bali, Sumatra, and Batam.

The systems, elements of the Huawei Intent-Driven Wide Area Network (WAN) Solution portfolio, will enable Biznet to improve the performance of its 25,000-km fiber-optic network, which serves the islands of Java, Bali, Sumatra, and Batam.

Established in 2000, Biznet offers a wide range of service, from broadband access to Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) leased lines for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and IP and optical fiber backbone bandwidth leasing services for larger enterprises. It also offers data center hosting and cloud services. However, its legacy network was straining to keep up with customer requirements, with several important elements reaching the end of their warranties, Huawei says.

Biznet, therefore, has enhanced its fiber network capabilities with higher performance systems. These include use of the NetEngine 40E Universal Service Router and OSN902 data center interconnect platform in metro nodes. The new hardware supports 100-Gbps wavelength transmission across the fiber-optic network backbone for a total capacity of 20 Tbps per fiber pair. The new fiber network also enables 10G/100G metro Ethernet via a ring configuration. The ISP also has upgraded its GPON-based fiber broadband capabilities with optical network terminals (ONTs) that support what Huawei asserts is the latest Wi-Fi technology.

The fiber network upgrade also introduces software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities that automate service delivery. The U2000 unified O&M and management system works with these SDN capabilities to improve network resiliency.
