Ethiopia
Dielectric has shipped a $1.2 million order comprising antennas, filters and RF accessories to Ethiopia to support the government's second-generation DVB-T2 video network rollout, which is scheduled to begin later this year. The order covers 26 low-to-medium power UHF transmission sites positioned around the country.
Dielectric worked with GatesAir, the prime contractor of the project, who will design, supply, install, test and commission the network solution. The initial DTV rollout is intended to support 20 channels of DVB-T2 content across all 26 sites. The Dielectric Powerlite series was selected for all sites, using omnidirectional antenna patterns.
Portugal
Portugal-based telecommunications provider NOWO has selected video processing solutions from AWS Elemental to power a unified headend delivering digital cable and over-the-top (OTT) video services. NOWO launched its subscription-based OTT video service to customers in the Portuguese market this year with AWS Elemental Live, AWS Elemental Server and AWS Elemental Conductor software performing live and file-based video transcoding.
NOWO's OTT package includes 70 channels accessible through set-top boxes, on the web and via iOS and Android devices, with plans to add 30 channels later in the year. The new service incorporates a range of features, including live streaming, VOD, catchup and start-over TV. Cloud PVR service is slated to be offered as well.
China
CIBN Oriental Network (Beijing), one of the seven broadcasting networks licensed to distribute over-the-top (OTT) content in China, has chosen RealNetworks (NASDAQ:RNWK) to upgrade the company's TV and mobile video streaming capabilities with RealNetworks' RealMedia HD multiscreen video codec.
RealMedia HD technology will be implemented on CIBN Oriental's platform and is scheduled to be available to consumers starting from the fourth quarter of 2017.
