RCN has announced the immediate availability of gigabit Internet speeds to New York City residents in each of its service areas, including Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. The 1 Gbps service is based on DOCSIS 3.1 and starts at $69.99/month for 12 months with no contracts.

Earlier this month, RCN announced plans to launch DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit services in Chicago.
