The city of Santa Cruz, CA, is getting wireless gigabit Internet service via a partnership among the city, Siklu and local ISP Cruzio Internet. The project, completed in three months, uses millimeter wave wireless technology to connect customers to Cruzio's existing fiber and serves 8,000 homes and businesses throughout Santa Cruz.
"Santa Cruz is one of many cities that are using Siklu radios in new ways to bring gigabit broadband to their communities in record time," said Izik Kirshenbaum, Founder and Chairman of Siklu. "Although in its infancy, mmWave technology is rapidly becoming the go to resource for providers looking for an affordable way to get to a gigabit."
The Santa Cruz network uses Siklu mmWave radios that connect to the existing Cruzio fiber network. The radios can attach to building facades, rooftops and poles to reach buildings that would be difficult or expensive to reach via a traditional fiber rollout.
Siklu and Las Vegas-based Broavada Communications announced a partnership to accelerate the deployment of millimeter wave gigabit wireless networks in November.
