As part of its TWC Maxx upgrade program, Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) has begun the rollout of faster Internet speeds in several North Carolina markets. The first wave of customers in the Elizabeth City, Murfreesboro and Triangle areas now have access to Internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps. The higher speeds come at no additional cost to subscribers.
Triangle areas in the first phase include Benson, Bunn, Chatham County, Creedmoor, Hillsborough, Louisburg, S. Durham and Warrenton. Time Warner Cable has also rolled out more than 3,000 WiFi hotspots throughout the Triangle area. The MSO plans to increase the speeds of all six of its Internet tiers in the affected markets by the end of the year.
The TWC Maxx program - which includes upgrades to Internet speeds, video services and network reliability - was first announced in January 2014. Initially launched in New York City and Los Angeles, the program is now underway or completed in a dozen major TWC markets.
