Active Broadband Networks and Allied Telesis, a provider of IP/Ethernet switching solutions, have joined forces on a hybrid cloud solution that combines Active Broadband's Software-Defined Broadband Network Gateway (SD-BNG) with Allied Telesis' EtherGRID application hybrid cloud delivery platform. The combined solution is intended to leverages cloud and SDN/NFV principles to achieve capital and operational savings for smaller operators.
Active Broadband's SD-BNG is designed to connect edge services directly to the cloud using existing access infrastructure. Comprising the company's Active Resource Controller (ARC), an SDN controller for broadband service delivery with integrated orchestration, activation, analytics, policy and QoE management, and the Active Programmable Gateway (APG), an all-software forwarding engine, the SD-BNG is designed to deliver connectivity, managed, compute and application services from a single platform.
Allied Telesis' EtherGRID is a hybrid cloud platform designed for enterprises and communication service providers who want to leverage cloud technology principles across their own infrastructure vs. as a pure public cloud play.
