Communications semiconductor and software vendor Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: IKAN) says it has leveraged technology from Internet of Things (IoT) data services firm Candi Controls to create Ikanos Fusion Smart Home Control (SHC). The software platform aims to facilitate the deployment of smart home devices and home automation applications by communications services providers and consumer electronics manufacturers. Ikanos says the Fusion SHC supports the necessary ingredients for home automation: scalability, cross-protocol integration, multi-standards conformance, security, and ease-of-use. It is designed to be a turn-key cloud services/embedded option that enables service providers and consumer electronics companies to create custom products and services based on a unified smart hub or gateway architecture. Elements of the Fusion SHC portfolio include:
IoT control devices based on Ikanos's Fusiv family of network processors, which enable a range of IoT control devices such as fully integrated gateways to small, low-cost IoT hubs that can connect to an existing modem or home gateway.
Unified, customizable user applications for managing and controlling all smart devices around the home, including Android, iOS, and Windows devices.
Cloud services that enable secure remote access, management, network monitoring, and analytics.
Ikanos’s inSIGHT Broadband Experience Manager (BXM) diagnostic and analytics software, which monitors the IoT network to ensure reliable connectivity and automate problem resolution.
Ikanos asserts that application of the Fusion SHC in network elements can enable new revenue-generating services for network operators. Meanwhile, service providers can leverage the insight BXM to monitor home networks and quickly learn of network issues, often before consumers are aware of them, Ikanos asserts.
Ikanos says the new platform is in "the early customer engagement phase," with general availability expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
