At INTX in Chicago, Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU) is expanding its portfolio of broadband access products for cable operators with the introduction of the FX-12 fiber-optic platform. The FX-12 is intended to help cable operators extend multi-gigabit fiber-optic services to more businesses and consumers.

The FX-12 platform - which joins the 7360 ISAM FX product family - is designed to provide high-capacity access for large-scale deployments of gigabit and faster broadband services to residences and businesses. It builds on the company's earlier introduction of an EPON platform designed specifically for cable networks and is designed for the deployment of EPON, both 10G and 1G, in cable networks. It also features embedded support for DOCSIS provisioning of EPON (DPoE), a CableLabs specification intended to enable cable MSOs to support EPON access technology via their existing back office systems and processes.

The FX-12 augments the 7360 FX portfolio of hardened shelves including the FX-8 and FX-4. The new FX-12 is a 19-inch wide shelf that supports 12 line card slots. All the shelves are designed to provide 10G EPON with DPoE for outdoor cabinet deployments as well as hub office locations.
