Coriolis Networks Inc. today announced that GCI, an Alaska-based integrated communication provider delivering voice, video, and data services through its fiber-optic, satellite, hybrid fiber coaxial, and metropolitan area networks, will deploy Coriolis' OptiFlow Network solution.
GCI is using Coriolis' platform to deliver transparent local area network (LAN) service, virtual local area network (VLAN) Internet access, and multipoint VLANs for multipoint transport layer security (TLS). These services will enable GCI to deliver more customizable service packages to its enterprise customers by allowing them to "burst" up to higher bandwidth levels during peak usage periods. GCI is due to deploy the platform in May with services turning up in June.
In the first phase of the deployment, GCI will install the OptiFlow 5500 trunk unit with OptiFlow1020 service units on OC-48 rings. The trunk unit will be located in GCI's central office (CO) while the service units will be dispersed in customer premises throughout the coverage area. GCI has forecasted deployment of up to 26 OptiFlow 1020 service units in additional customer premise locations for the remainder of 2002.
"Simply put, Coriolis helps carriers, like GCI, create new revenue streams by capitalizing on their existing infrastructure," contends Robert L. Castle, president and chief executive officer, Coriolis Networks. "GCI has been very successful carving out a market that includes a regional focus and differentiated service offerings. We are pleased to partner with them to improve their value proposition to the enterprise by giving them the tools they need to deliver valuable services, such as Ethernet."
