27 October 2003 Fuzhou Fujian, China Lightwave--Koncent Communication, Inc., a fiberoptic component manufacturer and supplier, announced the launch of a series of products intended for the cable television and metro access market in which a extensive temperature range is required (-40º~ 85ºC).

These new wide temperature operation components improve the line of Koncent's products that have been in the telecom market, and allow the company to move into product areas closer to the subscriber. The cable television market is closely linked to the access market and remains an expanding market today. Cable television systems are mainly deployed in the United States and in Asia, where they are in competition with classical DSL or satellite access solutions.

The new CATV/metro access solution puts stress on providing more functions at very low cost. These new releases consist of CWDM/DWDM devices and module, switch, coupler, isolator, power monitor, and an optical ADM.

"Koncent possesses all the technologies and the necessary skills to address this market and to propose innovative and competitive solutions." explains Bin Lin, chief technology officer of Koncent Communication. "Unlike other weakened sectors, the CATV [cable television] market remains a market in full expansion.

"We are in discussion with the principal players in this market and currently in advanced qualification with some CATV sub-systems manufacturers who want to work with Koncent because they have found in us the skill and the service that they are entitled to expect from any strategic partner."
