Huawei unveils 48/24-port optical GbE-FE Active Ethernet card

SEPTEMBER 13, 2010 – Huawei has introduced what it asserts is the industry’s highest density 48/24-port optical Gigabit Ethernet/Fast Ethernet (GbE-FE) Active Ethernet card at the 2010 FTTH Conference & Expo in Las Vegas.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2010 – Huawei has introduced what it asserts is the industry’s highest density 48/24-port optical Gigabit Ethernet/Fast Ethernet (GbE-FE) Active Ethernet card at the 2010 FTTH Conference & Expo in Las Vegas.

As part of Huawei’s All-IP convergence strategy, the 48/24-port Optical GbE-FE Active Ethernet card is designed to enable service providers to offer high-density point-to-point connectivity using optical Active Ethernet technology. Huawei says the addition of 48/24-port Optical GbE-FE Active Ethernet card enhances the overall value proposition of the company’s MA5600T Optical Line Terminal (OLT) fiber access platform to service providers. Advantages Huawei cites include:

  • Ability to deploy high access density of up to 672 active GbE ports per chassis and extended reach distances of 80 kKm.
  • Highly scalable to deliver high- bandwidth residential and business services.
  • Flexible deployment and application support for FTTP, FTTB, FTTC, and FTTE.


Huawei’s 48/24-port Optical Active Ethernet card will be available in the fourth quarter of 2010.
