Fiber management and connectivity provider Clearfield Inc. (NASDAQ:CLFD) has expandeditsFieldShield SmarTerminal line with three new configurations. The extension of the network access point (NAP) portfolio continues to address above-grade and below-grade applications.

Two of the new configurations offer additional feeder options. MPO Breakout and Patch & Splice feeder options now complement the terminal’s original pre-connectorized FieldShield feeder cable. The MPO Breakout provides a plug and play approach with up to 4, 8, or 12 pre-connectorized drop ports. The use of such an MPO feeder assembly enables the service provider or contractor to stock a single SKU for the SmarTerminal with multiple lengths of MPO feeders. Meanwhile, the Patch & Splice feeder option offers a 1-m, 12-fiber ribbon breakout. It supports both mass fusion and individual splice options.

The third additional configuration option offers optical splitters with pre-terminated drop ports. This configuration enables splitting within the SmarTerminal, which Clearfield says can maximize network performance with a single fiber deeper into the serving area. The configuration minimizes fiber count and maximizes splitter efficiency, the company adds. Meanwhile, the physical architecture and placement of pathways remain largely the same when using the SmarTerminal to service active as well as distributed-split services. Clearfield sees this configuration as useful for customers experiencing fiber constraints or prefer a distributed splitter application.

“The closer you get to the FTTP endpoint, variability of network design drives the need for flexibility,” says Clearfield COO Johnny Hill. “The FieldShield SmarTerminal accommodates all last mile strategies, allowing the broadband network designer to support the serving environment with the best configuration to lower the total cost of installation.”

The new FieldShield SmarTerminal options are now shipping, the company says.
