The ATM Forum has accepted a specification for a short-wavelength laser-based fiber-optic interface for use at 155 Mbits/sec proposed by Honeywell`s Micro Switch Div., Freeport, IL. Teaming with Honeywell was a coalition of companies, including Fujikura, IBM, Methode, Motorola, Siecor, Unisys, Vixel and Western Digital. Also, Honeywell recently introduced a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser product that meets the requirements of the Asynchronous Transfer Mode specification.
