EXFO releases high-power PMD analyzers

July 20, 2001--EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. announced a major upgrade to its Polarization Mode Dispersion Analyzers.

EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSE: EXF) announced a major upgrade to its FTB-5500 and IQ-5500 Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) Analyzers. EXFO increased the dynamic range of its field-ready and manufacturing plant PMD Analyzers to 56 dB in order to enable the testing of high-capacity, ultra-long haul and submarine networks.

PMD is a physical phenomenon inherent to optical fiber and optical components that causes a spreading of light pulses as they travel along a fiber. As optical networks move from 2.5 Gb/s to 10 Gb/s and even to 40 Gb/s over longer distances, PMD increasingly degrades the quality of the transmission signal.
