Bellcore sell-off

Bellcore sell-off

The seven regional Bell operating companies are selling off Livingston, NJ-based Bellcore Corp., which they jointly own. Since the 1984 divestiture of AT&T Corp., the companies have established individual competitive strategies, which they no longer wish to share among themselves. The telephone companies include Ameritech Corp., Bell Atlantic Corp., BellSouth Corp., Nynex Corp., Pacific Telesis Group, SBC Communications Corp. and US West Inc. Bellcore, which employs 6000 people and has an annual budget of approximately $1 billion, will continue to focus on non-owner company business.
