As data rates continue to increase and new architectures start to emerge for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, traditional methods and implementations are being supplanted by new ideas and concepts. The driving factor is to move the optics closer to the source of the data to reduce the power hungry interfaces used today. On-board optics are the first step towards building systems of the future where photons and electronics operate at wafer scale.

Brad Booth is a long-time leader in technology development and standardization. Currently Chairman of the Consortium for On-Board Optics, he is a Principal Engineer at Microsoft, where he leads the development of hyperscale interconnect strategy for Microsoft’s cloud datacenters. He is the founder and past Chairman of the Ethernet Alliance and was previously a Distinguished Engineer in the Office of the CTO at Dell Networking. Brad holds 14 patents related to networking technologies, and has received numerous awards from the IEEE Standards Association. Brad was listed as one of the 50 most powerful people in networking by Network World magazine.
