Asia Global Crossing launches CP-VPN solution for remote enterprise connectivity

Sept. 20, 2001--Asia Global Crossing, a pan-Asian telecommunications service provider, extended its secure customer premises-based virtual private network (CP-VPN) service to Australia.

Asia Global Crossing, a pan-Asian telecommunications service provider, extended its secure customer premises-based virtual private network (CP-VPN) service to Australia enabling Australian organizations to connect dispersed locations and transform broadband connections into secure data networks.

Asia Global Crossing has joined with OpenReach, a provider of virtual private network services, to deliver the solution over its global, high-performance IP network. Under the terms of the agreement, Asia Global Crossing will bundle OpenReach managed services and technology as part of an overall secure data networking solution. It is ideal for organizations that require regional and global connectivity for securing telecommuters, suppliers, partners, branch offices and customer sites.

The CP-VPN solution is based on OpenReach's premises-based VPN technology and is deployed via the download of hardened networking software. Combined with Asia Global Crossing's Direct Internet Access service or with other global services, the CP-VPN solution serves the needs of multinational enterprises in providing easy-to-provision VPN services, including: IPSec tunneling, public key infrastructure, firewall security, graphical management, monitoring and alerting, and reports. Requirements for off-net secure connectivity to support e-business intranets and extranets are also addressed.

Features of the Asia Global Crossing CP-VPN solution include:

* 168-bit 3DES encryption

* Integrated router, firewall and DHCP server

* End-to-end security

* Integrated Digital Certificate-based authentication

* Patent-pending service capabilities, including:

* Centralized browser-controlled policy management with continuous back-up and recovery

* Synchronized PKI ensures authenticity in the VPN environment

* NAT traversal that automatically navigates existing network devices including firewalls and routers

* VPN name services (VNS) that automatically reconcile address changes across a VPN

* Automated software updates that prevent obsolescence

Traditional data networking services address the needs of on-net customers whose corporate locations are all connected to a single provider backbone, but fall short in situations where customer locations are off-net, which occurs frequently when constructing inter-corporate extranets or when connecting diverse business units within a single enterprise. The combined Asia Global Crossing/OpenReach solution addresses the needs of customers whose locations are not all on the same physical network or who want to establish extranets with business partners.
