Short-haul modem

Model 278 fiber-optic short-haul modem provides connection between a workstation and a server running a campus Internet link. The links use SLIP/PPP protocols, which require two out-of-band signals in addition to two full-duplex data signals. The modem sends data at rates to 115.2 kbits/sec. A remote test function provides a diagnostic capability for checking and verifying the performance of the entire link of two modems and fiber-optic cables. Operation over distances to 2 km is possible using multimode fiber. The unit costs $298.
