Lumics releases a 1055-nm pump laser for S-band amplifiers

12 August 2003 Berlin Lightwave-- Lumics, a manufacturer of pump laser modules and laser chips, announced the availability of the LU1055M200 pump laser module with kink-free power up to 200mW. The pump laser is designed for use in Thulium doped S-band amplifiers deployed in high-speed optical telecommunications networks.

The cooled 1055-nm pump laser module is housed in a standard low profile 14-pin butterfly package. The device is also available with a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) without fiber splice. The fiber type is specified with Corning Puremode HI1060.

The LU1055M200 includes a TEC cooled with low package profile dimension. The typical operating current (at Pop = 200mW) is 435mA with a very low forward voltage of 1.6V. The threshold current is specified with typical 55mA. The spectral width at Pop with FBG is maximum 2 nm. The high performance of the device is based on propriety chip technology, which ensures very high reliability with a breakthrough in laser facet passivation. Products samples are available now.
