Anritsu shows 64Gbaud PAM4 BER test at ECOC 2016

Sept. 21, 2016
Anritsu Corp. exhibited its Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A series 64-Gbaud PAM4 BER test approach at this week's ECOC 2016 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The setup included the G0374A 64-Gbaud PAM4 DAC supporting 53.125-Gbaud PAM4 transmissions as defined within the upcoming 400 Gigabit Ethernet standard as part of the BER test. Anritsu also displayed the DAC's ability to generate 64-Gbaud PAM4 signals.

Anritsu says the Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A series outputs high-quality data signals with jitter of 300 fs (rms) and input sensitivity performance of 25 mV for a variety of BER tests. For 400 Gigabit Ethernet PAM4 requirements, the MP1800A series Multichannel Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) and Error Detector are used with the G0374A 64-Gbaud PAM4 DAC and MP1862A 56G/64G demultiplexer to support high-baud-rate NRZ and PAM4 signal generation as well as BER measurements.

Specifically, the MP1800A can generate up to eight channels of synchronized signals using the 32G MU183020A multichannel PPG module. The G0374A creates 64-Gbaud NRZ/PAM4 signals by conversion of the PPG's half-rate 32-Gbps NRZ signals. The MP1862A 56G/64G demultiplexer and MU183040B 28G/32G error detector complete the BER measurement setup.

Anritsu anticipates the suite will prove useful for research and development of high-speed electrical devices, optical devices, and optical transceiver modules.
