Cortina Systems, Oliver Solutions demo DPoE interoperability for 10G-EPON

Cortina Systems, Inc. has joined forces with Oliver Solutions Ltd., a provider of software-defined network (SDN)/network functions virtualization (NFV) based management software for access networks, to create a chip-level interoperability demonstration of symmetric 10G-EPON devices based on DOCSIS provisioning of EPON (DPoE) specifications at CableLabs.

Cortina Systems, Inc. has joined forces with Oliver Solutions Ltd., a provider of software-defined network (SDN)/network functions virtualization (NFV) based management software for access networks, to create a chip-level interoperability demonstration of symmetric 10G-EPON devices based on DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON (DPoE) specifications at CableLabs.

As the name implies, the DPoE specifications enable cable MSOs to deploy EPON fiber to the premises (FTTP) networks and manage their operation through DOCSIS, the operating system most commonly used for their hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) infrastructure (see "CableLabs preps EPON for MSO business services support"). CableLabs recently announced that it will develop similar specifications for GPON infrastructures as well (see "CableLabs tackles DOCSIS over GPON, single PON standard").

In the DPoE demonstration, along with Oliver Solutions' DPoE software stack, the Cortina CS8124 10G-EPON optical line terminal (OLT) and CS8160 10G-EPON optical network unit (ONU) devices successfully completed end-to-end interoperability tests, including multiple logical link identifiers (LLID), IPv6-based provisioning, non-secure firmware upgrade, customer VLAN and service VLAN operations, and IP high-speed data (HSD).
