Colocation services provider CyrusOne (NASDAQ: CONE) has added 100-Gbps data center interconnectivity to is Northern Virginia footprint via optical transport equipment from BTI Systems, the technology vendor says. The new deployment builds on earlier deployments of BTI's equipment, including its BTI 7800 Series Intelligent Cloud Connect platforms, in other parts of CyrusOne's fiber-optic network.

CyrusOne has enterprise-class, carrier-neutral data center facilities in the United States, Europe, and Asia that serve nearly 900 customers, including nine of the Fortune 20 and more than 160 of the Fortune 1000 or equivalent-sized companies. The company built a new data center in Sterling, VA, this past May to take advantage of the fact that approximately 70% of Internet traffic runs through North Virginia's Loudoun County.

The new data center leverages BTI's data center interconnect portfolio, which includes the BTI 7800 Series platform, the BTI 7000 Series Packet Optical platform, an integrated ROADM-on-a-blade, and the software-defined networking (SDN) architected BTI proNX Service Manager.

In the BTI press release that announced the deployment, CyrusOne Vice President and General Manager of Interconnection Josh Snowhorn praised the scalability, 100G connectivity, and power and space efficiencies CyrusOne has seen so far from its deployments of the packet-optical transport system and associated technology. He also says his company has been able to achieve rapid customer and service turn-up.
