STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) has announced a set-top box system on a chip (SoC) platform designed to support Google's Android TV based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. The STiH412-based Android 5.0 platform is now available for deployment. Features include:
  • Multi-decode HEVC combined with picture-in-picture support
  • A SoC architecture combining graphic capabilities and offload processors for gaming and 3D, as well as 4k/UltraHD video decoding
  • Transcode capability to distribute broadcast content on a smartphone, tablet or second screen at home
  • VP8 encoder to support Google Hangout
