Limelight Networks (NASDAQ:LLNW) has made a major upgrade to its global content delivery network (CDN) infrastructure.
The company has completed the global rollout of an upgraded version of its EdgePrism OS software that's designed to reduce video rebuffers and latency, increase throughput, and improve security. The new software is intended to boost Limelight's edge server capacity by more than 120% percent by maximizing the performance of Limelight's server hardware and application suite.
Limelight's global private QoS-enabled network includes more than 80 points-of-presence (PoPs) in more than 40 metropolitan locations with 29+ Tbps of egress capacity interconnected with more than 900 major ISPs and last-mile networks.
Other upgrades include:
- Faster servers and connectivity: Edge servers have been updated to 1U servers with solid state drives and 50 GigE network connectivity.
- New EdgePrism DNS: Limelight's rules-based domain name system (DNS) now features intelligent PoP and server selection with real-time decision making that utilizes a constantly updated map of the Internet.
- 100 GigE backbone links: Core backbone links have been upgraded to 100 GigE, allowing cache-fill traffic, dynamic content, and integrated service data to bypass the public Internet.
- PoP Expansion: Global egress capacity has been expanded by more than 40% by adding 11 new PoPs and completing upgrades of 20 additional PoPs.

The Limelight Orchestrate Platform is built on a global, private backbone network and includes integrated content delivery, web acceleration, origin storage, video management, cloud security and support services.
