AT&T (NYSE:T) has launched gigabit Internet service for both residential and business services customers in parts of St. Louis, St. Charles and University City, with more area communities slated to get the 1 Gbps fiber-based services by the end of the year.

"We're proud to bring the St. Louis metro AT&T's ultra-fast Internet speeds over our AT&T GigaPower and Business Fiber networks. "Today, we mark just the beginning of our AT&T GigaPower service and we continue to work diligently to expand it and our Business Fiber network to additional locations throughout St Louis."

AT&T says its GigaPower network is currently available in more than 2.2 million locations in 27 metro areas. The telco plans to expand its availability to parts of 29 more areas, for 56 metros in total, and more than 14 million residential and commercial locations.
