Atlantic Broadband announced its $6.3 million "FastForward Miami" initiative to upgrade its network infrastructure and services in Miami Beach and surrounding areas including Aventura, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Golden Beach, North Bay Village, Pinecrest, South Miami, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, plus Brickell, the Biscayne corridor, and downtown Miami.
When complete, the upgrade program is intended to deliver:
- Doubling of top Internet speeds to 250 Mbps, ultimately enabling wide availability of gigabit Internet service
- Addition of 58 SD and/or HD channels, bringing the total channel count to more than 400
- More Spanish language and international channels
- Enhanced digital picture quality and sound
- Availability of an on-screen guide on all TV sets
As part of the initiative, Atlantic Broadband has begun a multi-year, phased effort to build fiber deeper into its network. Phase 1, focused on the southern and northern portions of the system, began in early 2016 and is expected to be complete before the end of August. Phase 2 is scheduled to begin this fall.
