Tata Sky, a direct-to-home (DTH) satellite operator in India, has chosen the Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) AVP 4000 System Encoder for its video service. Tata Sky has upgraded and expanded its entire DTH platform to the AVP 4000 compression platform. The upgrade is intended to enable Tata Sky to increase the bouquet of channels offered to subscribers while maintaining high quality and building toward new services.

Harit Nagpal, CEO of Tata Sky, said: "For Tata Sky, it is of utmost importance to consistently deliver a high quality viewing experience to our subscribers. The Ericsson AVP 4000 System Encoder allows us to enhance picture quality, offer increased volumes of channels and content and launch new services, such as OTT [http://www.broadbandtechreport.com/video/ott.html], on the same platform."

In March, Ericsson supported Tata Sky in launching commercial 4K video service.
