According to iGR, the number of North American carrier and cable operator network WiFi hotspots will reach 44 million by 2018.

As the amount of traffic on the mobile data network continues to grow, iGR says, wireless carriers are increasingly looking to network WiFi in public places as an alternative to cellular data. In addition, cable MSOs have built large WiFi networks in major cities and offer the service as a value-add to their subscribers.
