According to research from Futuresource Consulting, the global installed base of TV-centric Internet-connected devices surpassed 1 billion units in 2013 and will exceed 2 billion by 2017, driven by smart TV, IP-enabled set-top boxes, game consoles, Blu-ray players and low-cost digital media adapters.

Three years ago, fewer than 30% of people who owned a smart TV actually connected it to the Internet. This has now risen to 68% on average today, with the United States leading at a 79% connection rate.
