Called a well thought out and very powerful session border controller by one Diamonds judge, Perimeta is a pure software solution that can run on standard off-the-shelf hardware or can be virtualized in the cloud. It consists of two components: a signaling session controller (SSC) and a media session controller (MSC), which may be collocated or geographically dispersed around the network. Optionally, an integrated session controller can combine the functionality of the SSC and the MSC to provide a solution for smaller deployments.

Perimeta's distributed architecture allows operators to grow signaling border control (SBC), media border control, and transcoding independently based on the demand for each. They can pursue SBC strategies based on the actual ratios of signaling, media and transcoding, Metaswitch says.Diamonds judges highlighted many positive things about Perimeta, including its ability to manage the multiple disparate SIP implementations often found in today's multivendor networks. Perimeta's SIP Message Manipulation Framework modifies SIP headers and message bodies to ensure granular session control functions can operate.www.metaswitch.comSee them at Cable-Tec Expo, Booth 201Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
