Part of the Verimatrix VCAS security platform, MultiRights is a black box service that manages multiple DRM schemes across an OTT service. Intelligence resides in the headend and can recognize the receiving device, the type of DRM, what the response should be, the keys to use, and the underlying cryptography. Verimatrix creates a "super domain" within a unified entitlement system to embrace multiple single DRM domains.
The company recognizes that MPEG-DASH accommodates multiple DRM schemes in a single streaming environment and includes the ISO/IEC Common Encryption Scheme. This specifies standard encryption and key mapping methods for decryption of the same file using different DRM systems. However, it leaves details of rights mapping, key acquisition and storage and compliance rules up to the individual DRM. This is where MultiRights comes in, Verimatrix says. It provides a single rights management solution to help insulate operators from the complexity of multi-DRM compliance.
