Ciena WaveLogic 5 Extreme - 5 Diamonds

Sept. 29, 2020
Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optical technology is optimized to deliver high fiber capacity with less equipment. With programmable capacity from 200 Gbps to 800 Gbps, WL5e exceeds the performance of emerging 600G alternatives by delivering 50% more wavelength capacity and up to 20% increase in spectral efficiency for the same application. Operators can achieve 800G for 100-200 km distances, 600G for metro/regional (1000 km) and 400G for long-haul (4000 km) and subsea applications. WL5e is also the only technology that enables elegant evolution to emerging 400G-interface routers, with efficient 400 Gigabit Ethernet client connect at any distance, from across the metro to across the Pacific, says the company.

Judge’s Comment: “The availability of 800G-capable wavelength transport is timely and will be readily adopted by cable companies when they select their next-generation optical platforms.”
